BIOGRAPHY

JOSEF ALBERS

Josef Albers (1888-1975) was an educator and artist whose work (both in the U.S. and Europe), formed the basis of some of the most influential and far-reaching art education programs of the twentieth century. He worked from 1908 to 1913 as a school teacher in his home town. He trained as an art teacher at Konigliche Kunstschule in Berlin, Germany from 1913 to 1915. From 1916 to 1919, he began his work as a printmaker at the Kunstgewerbschule in Essen. In 1918, he recieved his first public commission.
