Opening: Thursday, Sept 9, 2004 6-8pm
About exhibition
Madelyn Jordon Fine Art is pleased to present new paintings by Derek Buckner in the gallery"s new space at 14 Chase Road, Scarsdale, NY.
Derek Buckner"s virtuosity is revealed in visionary landscapes of land and sea which haunt our memories and delight our senses. Painting en plein aire, Buckner"s extensive journeys to Europe, Mexico and Long Island"s East End provide the backdrop for emotionally satisfying, light-filled compositions, poeticaly rendered. We bathe in the fast-fleeting atmosphere of the scene, experiencing it fully. In "Early Sunday Morning" the artist injects a Hopper-like emotional tension into a modern scene of suburban life. Another favorite subject is the urban landscape of the artist"s native Brooklyn. In these semi-abstract works, singular blocks of color stand-in for buildings or truck bodies in complex, structured compositions of New York"s industrial core.
The exhibition will continue until October 9, 2004.
Tuesday-Saturday, 10-5:30PM and by appt.
