About exhibition
Madelyn Jordon Fine Art is honored to present "Pablo Picasso: Master Printmaker" at the gallery"s new location at 14 Chase Road, Scarsdale, NY. The exhibition will encompass over thirty drypoints, etchings, lithographs and lino-cuts from the extraordinary printed graphic oeuvre of the artist.
Picasso first began experimenting with the drypoint at age 23, and worked continually with the materials of printmaking throughout his life. An inquisitive, voracious experimenter, the artist"s prodigious output spanned several different forms and techniques, several of which will be highlighted in the exhibition. Selections from the "Suite Vollard" described by Picasso cataloguer, Georges Bloch, as "the culminating point of his creative powers" during the period 1919 to 1945 underscores Picasso"s mastery of the drypoint etching. After 1945, Picasso began vigorous experimentation with lithography, working in the atelier of Fernand Mourlot. His virtuosity with the lithographic medium is evident.
Picasso"s ceaseless energy and quest for new forms found an outlet in deluxe portfolios of prints for illustrated books, as well as posters cut in linoleum. A selection from "La Celestine" a portfolio of 66 etchings and aquatints illustrating the book by Fernando de Rojas and "Buffon", executed during WWII, will be among the works presented in this medium.
The exhibition will continue until November 27, 2004.
