Patrick LoCicero: Double Versed Flowers
About exhibition
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Patrick LoCicero: Double Versed Flowers, May 30 – July 12, 2008.
Madelyn Jordon Fine Art is pleased to present its first solo exhibition of mixed media paintings by Seattle-based artist Patrick LoCicero entitled Patrick LoCicero: Double Versed Flowers from May 30 – July 12, 2008. An opening reception will be held Fri, May 30th, 2008 from 6-8PM. Previews and private showings are by appointment only.
In this exhibition, the artist continues his exploration of the floral still life tradition, creating his signature paintings of highly decorative, tabletop arrangements in exotic vases. LoCicero’s idiosyncratic interpretations of classical still life employ a complex overlapping and collaging of the canvas with ephemera –- aged receipts, old diaries, love letters, antique books -- which provides both a thematic source for the painting, as well as a texturally rich, detailed surface. Masterfully juxtaposing layers of collaged paper flower petals and foliage, with glossy, painted vases, the canvases combine alternating areas of shallow and deep space. Backgrounds surfaces are sometimes collaged, sometimes painted. LoCicero’s paintings delight, especially on close inspection, when all hidden details are revealed.
LoCicero’s works, however, are not just layered on the surface; rather, they are layered in meaning as well. The artist’s interest in travel, from place to place, and era to era, is employed as an artistic metaphor. Tying the meaning inherent in the collaged paper to the theme of his painting, the paintings evoke a passage to another time, place, and perhaps consciousness. The viewer is invited to make his own associations - to visit the past - if even for just a moment, an artistic journey of reverie and harmony.
Patrick LoCicero’s work is included in numerous public and private collections, such as The Dayton Art Museum, The San Francisco International Airport, The Swedish Medical Center, Trinity University, San Antonio, TX, The Palace of The Legion of Honor in San Francisco, Ca, The Hechinger Collection, Saks Fifth Avenue, The Corner Company, Paris, France, and A.R.A Services, Inc.
