"TOM HOFFMAN: CONTEMPORARY REALIST"

Madelyn Jordon Fine Art is pleased to present the inaugural exhibition of paintings by contemporary realist Tom Hoffman. In the current show, the artists continues his investigation of the language and possibilities of still life, a subject he has mined for the past five years. Using familiar, inanimate objects for their formal qualities of color, texture and composition, the artist creates straightforward arrangements characterized by a sense of harmony, balance and beauty. Beyond their aesthetic qualities, the artist is interested in "the symbolic content some objects can hold, as well as the psychological and narrative aspects brought about through the placement or grouping of the objects in view." Together this opens the door to multiple interpretations of meaning.

Hoffman, a self-taught artist until the age of 35, received a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago, and an MFA from Northwestern University. He subsequently received a fellowship and studied with the realist painter James Valerio. He is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Utah. He has received numerous awards for his work and is represented in many collections private and public including The Art Institute of Chicago, Springville Museum of Art and the Mary and Leigh Block Museum at Northwestern University.
