John Kalymnios

Kalymnios’s work is considered an example of postmodern internationalism art for the materials he uses are often linked to synthetics or high technology. The artist is principally known for his kinetic sculptures which create interesting visual and spatial manipulations. The works become sensory experiences in which he uses low-tech mechanics, sculpture, video, and photography to toy with our perceptions. Kalymnios draws from nature: spirals whirl, butterflies in motion captivate, and illuminated cloudscapes to create a hypnotic sense of space.
John Kalymnios has exhibited in many galleries and museums, from Caren Golden Fine Art gallery to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Of Greek parentage, Kalymnios was born in Wollongong, Australia, in 1960; he currently lives and works in New York.
