Madelyn Jordon Fine Art is pleased to announce an exhibition of modern and selected vintage masterworks from the photography archives of LIFE magazine. The exhibition will include some of the most recognized and beloved photographic images ever taken, by LIFE""s pioneering photojournalists, including Margaret Bourke-White, Ed Clark, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Andreas Feininger, Carl Mydans, Ralph Morse, John Dominis and others. Together, the exhibition presents a bird""s eye view of the political and cultural events, personalities and celebrities of the twentieth century.
Highlights of the exhibition include Alfred Eisenstaedt""s iconic image of a sailor and a nurse kissing on VJ Day in Times Square, Margaret Bourke-White""s helicopter view of sightseers hanging out windows in the crown of the Statue of Liberty, and Carl Mydans""s heart wrenching photograph of a beautiful child of a migrant worker taken during the Depression. These pictures capture the enduring moments of human experience shared by us all.
LIFE premiered on November 23, 1936, and quickly became a staple in the American household and a cultural force in America. Its mission, stated by founder Henry R. Luce and carried out by its renowned photographers, was simply stated: ""To see life; to see the world ... to watch the faces of the poor and the gestures of the proud; to see strange things... To see and be amazed; to see and be instructed."" For the next forty years, the magazine entertained and educated the American public by telling stories in a new way-- through pictures.
