Kate Roebuck
Kate Roebuck is an artist and designer working and residing in East Tennessee. After graduating with a BFA from the University of Georgia in 2009, Kate went on to pursue a career in fine art and began a solo studio practice in 2013.
Influenced by her background in textile design, Kate ‘fell in love with pattern and the way pattern and shapes in color interact with one another’. Her simplified botanical forms have a charming, illustrative tone. Finding inspiration in pattern and texture, her organic linework and neutral color palette offer an unconventional yet rhythmic balance of playfulness and precision.
Kate primarily works with sumi ink and watercolor on handmade paper. She loves the textile quality of paper over canvas, saying ‘the way the paint moves on paper is so different than sinking into something’. Kate’s work often toys with the boundary separating art and life, while remaining expressive and accessible.
