Catherine Howe
New York artist, Catherine Howe is widely admired for her painterly works that are an amalgam of materials that reference both the baroque and nature. Drawing from nature, Howe’s paintings are influenced by New York School abstraction, as well as rococo and 17th century Dutch still life paintings. Showcasing strength and vibrancy, Howe’s paintings are exercises in the evocative power of paint as a material.
Howe was a Professor on the Graduate Painting Faculty at the New York Academy of Art and Chair of the Department of Critical Studies until 2021. She has exhibited extensively in the United States, including solo exhibitions at Lesley Heller Workspace, Casey Kaplan Gallery, VonLintel Gallery, the William Shearburn Gallery, and more. She has also been reviewed in major publications, including the NY Times, Art in America, and ArtForum. She currently lives both in Manhattan and a farmhouse in the Hudson Valley.
