Marit Geraldine Bostad
One but Two I (Made In New York series)
2018
Acrylic on canvas
12 x 12 in.
This abstract, acrylic painting was created during a Summer 2018 residency at the Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation in Jersey City, New Jersey. Departing from her usual palette of warm, Nordic colors, Bostad’s recent paintings feature an explosion of vivid colors never seen in her work before. Utilizing thick, animated brushstrokes of acrylic paint, the active surface of the canvas incorporates bold colors in dark and light blue, red, orange, yellow, green, white, and black.

Exploring the Nordic Color tradition in a bold new direction, Bostad blends pastels with sparks of fluorescent, manifesting her own personal psychic state onto the canvas. She builds up and breaks down the diverse elements of her experience and brings them together in a new dimension.
