More about

Jonathan Seliger

JONATHAN SELIGER roots his visual vocabulary in contemporary and 20th Century art historical precedents such as Pop Art, Minimalism, and Conceptual Art. Drawing inspiration from ephemera and the signs and detritus of everyday contemporary living, Selinger’s subjects span iconic haute-couture shopping bags and mass produced, throwaway commercial packaging such as milk, paper bags, and Chinese takeout containers. Known for his meticulous execution and his play with scale, the naming of artworks and show titles adds an element of humor and social critique.

Jonathan Seliger (b. 1955) is an artist living and working in Brooklyn and Columbia County, NY.  He earned his BA from the State University of New York at Binghamton. Seliger has had over 30 solo shows and participated extensively in group exhibitions both nationally and abroad.
